Vincey 2020 arrives

Domaine Vincey is another great example of an RC Cooperative business that has transformed into a leading RM grower in the Cote des Blancs. Located in the Grand Cru village of Oger, Domaine Vincey is a new domaine run by a young couple, Quentin and Marine Vincey. Quentin returned to his family domaine in 2014 and Marine joined in 2018, after working in communications and at several Champagne houses. They cultivate 7ha of vineyards across Cote des Blancs, Montagne de Reims, Marne Valley and Cote des Bars. No Herbicides, no pesticides, oak maturation and bottling under cork. Gravity production line. Biodynamic certified. Now in the top 5 producers in the Cote des Blancs.

The vintage 2020 is an historical one, the covid year. Winter was quite rainy, specially February, but the rest of the season was clement, with a warm and dry summer. Those conditions offered a nice bloom, a generous vintage with quite high alcoholic degrees around 13%. A healthy, powerful, yet balanced vintage, full of fruit and expression. Again in the Cote des Blancs, we can say that thanks to dear old chalk, which secured freshness, water and the one-of-a-kind minerality. Harvest from September 1st to 8th.

All winemaking processes are very simple. Traditional wood Coquard press by gravity, light decanting, 0 additives or added sulphites, wild yeast fermentation in French oak barrels, with 12 months on lees in French oak barrels. No fining, no filtration and no enzyme. Bottling “sous liege” with manual riddling and disgorgement.

Domaine Vincey Oger 2020 $170.00

Oger has its own subtleties, upper slopes, main terroir and in the plains. Each location has its own personality thanks to exposure, soil composition and micro climate. Parcels are picked pressed and aged separately to express their own personality. One year in oak. No malo. Aged on cork. Light gold with a touch of green. The nose is richly complex, with luxurious exotic and almond elements. The oak has integrated superbly adding subtle apple and creamy toffee overtones. Texture, tension and minerality in spades in a gorgeous long fleshy explosive palate. Joy in a bottle. Dosage zero of course.

Domaine Vincey Interlude 3 Oger  pre-arrival $190.00

Subtle vanilla with coconut overtones, white fruits, and citrus.  There is crisp green apple, lemon, and chalk on the front end, great texture and warmth through the mid-palate, and always that wonderful balance of fruit and oak that is a hallmark of the Domaine’s philosophy. A saline exotic coconut element finishes the long palate. Not produced every year. Blend of three old-vine single-vineyards – Le Grand Jardin, Chemin de Châlons and Auge – it is based on the 2021 vintage,   with 50% reserve wines from 2018 and 2020.

Domaine Vincey “Le Grand Jardin” Oger 2020  pre-arrival $260.00

This is the latest release of the first lieu-dit wine created by the Domaine. The grapes come from a small plot directly behind the building. The nose displays tropical fruit, alongside some candied elements and salt. On the palate it’s complex but refined with the oak in the background intermingling with all those classic Chardonnay fruits. There’s great texture and weight and a lovely touch of salinity and citrus on the finish. This is serious stuff. Dosage zero.
